Frequently Asked Questions

1. Fees

This is a mixed billing practice. We aim to support the most vulnerable in the community by bulk billing individuals on low income. This is one of our ways we give back and support the local community. All of our psychologist are passionate about helping clients and we have shown this by bulk billing everyone for more than 10 years.

However due to increases in our running cost, from 1 July 2018, if you are a new client and don’t meet the bulk billing criteria, we will charge an out of pocket fee of $50 to consult with one of our Psychologist, pending appropriate GP/Psychiatrist/Paediatrician referral. No current clients will be affected by this gap fee.

Private session fees:

General Psychologist: $135 per consultation.

Clinical Psychologist: $178 per consultation.

Medico-legal issues: $251 per consultation.

We aim to assist everyone who asks for help. If you have genuine financial hardship, please call us and discuss your situation and our caring staff may be able to reduce your gap fee based on a sliding scale and/or your affordability. We will NOT turn anyone away.

2. Report preparation

Please be advised that Medicare does not cover report writing.  Production of written reports or assessment findings are separate to the session fee and are completed in the psychologist’s own time, usually after the session. Therefore, the report will incur a fee in line with the Australian Psychological Society’s recommendations which are: 1 page = $135; 1-2 pages =$187; 2-3 pages = $251; 3-4 pages = $303; 4-5 pages = $357; 5-6 pages = $462. Please note that this is a guideline only. Please call us to confirm these cost.

3. Medico-legal assessment and report

We conduct medico-legal assessment and report for court purposes or other legal problems. This will be charged at our professional body, the Australian Psychological Society’s recommended fee. Please contact us for the current fee.

4. Intelligence, Cognitive & Memory Test

We conduct these test below:

A. Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V).

This test is an individually administered intelligence test for children between the ages of 6 and 16 and generates a Full Scale IQ that represents a child’s general intellectual ability.

B. Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Third Edition (WIAT-III). Use the results of this test to:

  • Identify the academic strengths and weaknesses of a student
  • Inform decisions regarding eligibility for educational services, educational placement, or diagnosis of a specific learning disability
  • Design instructional objectives and plan interventions

C. Wechsler Memory Scale, Fourth Edition (WMS-IV). This test can help:

  • Assess dementia in geriatric patients
  • Assess brain dysfunction in adults
  • Medico-legal evaluations
  • Psycho-educational evaluation of adolescents and adults

Please contact us for the fees involved.

5. Who can be bulk billed at ER Health Clinic?

We aim to support the most vulnerable in the community by bulk billing individuals on low income. For example, individuals with health care cards, pensioners (e.g. disability support pension or age pension), individuals who are unemployed, or individuals who are experiencing financial hardship. This is one way we give back to the local community in mental health.

6. What is bulk billing?

Bulk billing means that the psychologist bills Medicare directly and accepts the Medicare benefit as full payment for their service. There is no out of pocket expense for you.

7. Better Access Mental Health Initiative via Medicare

a. A referral by your General Practitioner (GP) or Psychiatrist is required first. They will complete a Mental Health Plan and claim the necessary Medicare item number. This approves a block of 6 sessions.

b. Call our office on 07 3278 9837 to Book appointment with one of our psychologists and bring your referral. A receipt will be issued that contains the doctor’s provider number and the date of referral. This allows the Medicare rebate to be processed.

c. In order to have more than 6 sessions, a review appointment is required with your doctor who can then approve a second block of 4 sessions. Hence a total of 10 sessions are allowed via this scheme in a CALENDAR year.

8. Private Health Fund

Please check with your particular health fund in regards to their rebate requirements.

9. Work Cover, Insurance & Medico-legal issues

We do conduct these types of assessment and treatment. If you have been approved for Workcover or other Insurance and psychological services is part of this cover, speak to your case manager. This will be generally charged at APS rates.
